A voyage of discovery.
It's taking me a little longer than it might take some other people. As you can see. Without a motor–or even a
sail –it can be slow going. And I've changed directions a few times. Actor, Director, Playwright. Computer
Programmer. Business Owner. One might say that navigation is not my strong point, except I prefer to think of it all
as a voyage to Ithaca.
This journey began in kindergarten when I was given the lead in the school play (something about candy canes and gum drops), because I was the only kid who could remember the lines. (Oddly enough, I got some roles in later life for almost the same reason. It pays to have a good memory.) A lifelong passion for the theatre was born.
Many years, several school plays, and two college degrees later, I moved to New York City to become. . . (drumroll). . .an ACTRESS. (trumpet fanfare).
Now, of course, in deference to me being a feminist–and proud of it–we say 'actor.'
Anyhow, I was in NYC, and I was an actor. I got a few jobs. Actual paying jobs. (These are not as common as you might think if your sole experience of actors happens to be the ones you see on TV and in the movies.) I got a few directing jobs. (More of those involve a paycheck.) And I got a lot of "job" jobs.
Temp. Administrative Assistant. Software Training. Computer Programmer.
Somewhere along the line, I started writing: a couple of short stories, a novel which shall remain locked in a drawer, a whole slew of training manuals and documentation, and, eventually, a play. The play got--and still gets--a little attention.
I kept writing.
And here we are.
I started this website to:
1. Give me yet another reason to procrastinate instead of finishing that novel.
2. Generate some interest in my plays and other writing.
3. Have a reason to write something every day, even if it's a blog post and not a best-seller.
4. Avoid those rewrites. . .oh, wait, I already said that.
Anyway, I hope that gives you some idea of what I'm about. If you want to know more, stick around, read some of my stuff (when the bookstore opens), and in the meantime, check out my blog.
