I am large...I contain multitudes.
--Walt Whitman, 'Song of Myself'
Being a Libra, with the scales tilting wildly back and forth, as I try to achieve a balance, I have always had a sort of mini-adversarial system
playing inside my head. I never really consciously thought of just who the personification of the various voices might be until I started to
follow Havi Brooks's blog, The Fluent Self. Havi makes brilliant use of a technique of externalizing internal barriers (monsters) and
helpers (metaphor mouse), and one of the things she does is have talks with Past Havi and Slightly Future Havi (to her, of course, they are
"Past Me" and "Slightly Future Me.")
I'm not explaining this very well, and just at the moment, I can't find the post in which she explains it (because I save lots of her posts
and I get distracted by all the good stuff in them whenever I look for something). So, if you're interested, I encourage you to go looking for it
yourself at The Fluent Self. Just start wading (or should I say 'joyously swimming?') through the posts. Almost
anything you read will give you something good.
(A little update: I think I found the relevant post. Or one of them, anyway. It's about the front of the V--here.
And it turns out that Havi incorporated it from Hiro--who I haven't been following, but I'm gonna check her out--here.)
