{"id":1183,"date":"2012-09-21T03:00:47","date_gmt":"2012-09-21T07:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elainesmithwrites.com\/wp\/?p=1183"},"modified":"2014-02-09T15:11:41","modified_gmt":"2014-02-09T20:11:41","slug":"boogie-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elainesmithwrites.com\/wp\/2012\/09\/21\/boogie-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Boogie down!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #1c827a;\">The 27-Fling Boogie<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flylady.net\/d\/getting-started\/fly-faq\/#boogie\" target=\"_blank\">27-Fling Boogie<\/a> is an invention of Marla Cilley over at <a href=\"http:\/\/flylady.net\" target=\"_blank\">FlyLady.net<\/a>.\u00a0 The FlyLady is full of tips and tricks to get your house in order and keep it that way.\u00a0 Lots of good information, and much of it has been helpful to me.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most fun and effective things is the 27-Fling Boogie.<\/p>\n<p>As I recall it, once you&#8217;ve decided which &#8220;zone&#8221; of your house is going to get your attention, you&#8211;very quickly&#8211;identify 27 things to throw away and 27 things to give away.\u00a0 Put them in bags or boxes or whatever, and get them out of the house.<\/p>\n<p>Right into the garbage can.\u00a0 Right into the trunk of the car.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of moving them immediately is to prevent the inevitable second guessing that occurs if you keep the box or bag long enough that you take another look.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re anything like me, you <em>will <\/em>re-think your decision.\u00a0 <em>Hey!\u00a0 I might need that sometime.\u00a0 <\/em>If the bag is already in the garbage can and the box is already in the car, ready to go to Goodwill or wherever, they are probably going to stay there.<\/p>\n<p>It seems simple, doesn&#8217;t it?\u00a0 Hardly worth a whole bog post.<\/p>\n<p>The thing is, there is something about the number 27.\u00a0 Maybe it&#8217;s the rhythm of it.\u00a0 Maybe it&#8217;s the magical quality of being a perfect cube (3 cubed).\u00a0 Maybe it&#8217;s that it&#8217;s a high enough number that you have to really stretch to find enough items to meet the goal&#8211;so you steel yourself to get rid of that sequined purse that you have <em>never <\/em>used. &#8220;27&#8221; keeps you at it when you think it&#8217;s time to stop for cake.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;boogie&#8221; plays into this, too.\u00a0 It has a connotation of fast and fun.\u00a0 As does &#8220;fling,&#8221; really.\u00a0 The idea is to get moving.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t stop to think.\u00a0 Fling!<\/p>\n<p>After a while, in subsequent iterations, you&#8217;re not going to find 27 things in a particular zone.\u00a0 That&#8217;s when you expand the boogie to the whole house, I guess.\u00a0 (Actually, the way it&#8217;s described on the FlyLady website now does apply to the whole house.\u00a0 It may be my faulty memory that makes me think it was originally applied to zones.\u00a0 I did do quite well culling my bookshelves, though, when I 27-fling boogied through my office.\u00a0 Whatever works, right?)<\/p>\n<p>And on my next boogie, I&#8217;m going to cube it a little further.\u00a0 27 things to throw away, 27 things to give away, and 27 things for a garage sale.<\/p>\n<p>Boogie down!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 27-Fling Boogie The 27-Fling Boogie is an invention of Marla Cilley over at FlyLady.net.\u00a0 The FlyLady is full of tips and tricks to get your house in order and keep it that way.\u00a0 Lots of good information, and much of it has been helpful to me.
