Technologically speaking.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I bought a phone yesterday for $2 bucks.<\/p>\n

A corded phone.<\/p>\n

The thing is\u2014I have this house.\u00a0 It’s a big house.\u00a0 It came with a phone jack in every room.\u00a0 (Almost.)\u00a0 Plus the garage and the dock.\u00a0 That’s a total of about eleven jacks.\u00a0 And I came with exactly three phones.\u00a0 Well, five if you count the extra handsets to the cordless phone.<\/p>\n

One of the handsets fell off the hood of the car over by the chicken church.\u00a0 (Don’t ask.)\u00a0 Anyway, it’s gone.\u00a0 Run over by a car.\u00a0 Eaten by an alligator.\u00a0 Something.<\/p>\n

Lost to me forever, however it happened.<\/p>\n

The other two handsets are, at any given moment, in need of new batteries.<\/p>\n

I know, I know.<\/p>\n

Many people have switched to a completely cellular communication system.<\/p>\n

I’m not one of them.<\/p>\n

I’m not a “millenial.”<\/p>\n

Sue me.<\/p>\n

I like corded phones.<\/p>\n

I hear better on them.\u00a0 It’s easier to hold a handset between your ear and your shoulder and do two things at once.\u00a0 They don’t need batteries.\u00a0 I don’t have to remember to charge them.\u00a0 They tend to stay in the vicinity of the phone jack instead of ring from beneath sofas and behind bookcases.\u00a0 If a hurricane hits and the cell tower falls, the phone lines might still be up.<\/p>\n

I like corded phones.<\/p>\n

So, I was very happy to find one at a garage sale one block over for $2 bucks.\u00a0 Once upon a time, this was a fairly expensive, 2-line phone.\u00a0 Speaker.\u00a0 Programmable numbers.\u00a0 The works.<\/p>\n

It cleaned up nice.<\/p>\n

It works.<\/p>\n

I only need 3 or 4 more, and I’ll have one everywhere there’s a jack.\u00a0 I think I’ll be spending some more time at garage sales.<\/p>\n

Oh. . .and if anybody knows how to get a phone to call itself. . . is that possible?. . . maybe I won’t have to get an intercom system or a sackful of walkie-talkies in order to find my husband.\u00a0 He’s hard to keep track of in all these rooms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
