{"id":2970,"date":"2013-10-08T03:00:08","date_gmt":"2013-10-08T07:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/elainesmithwrites.com\/wp\/?p=2970"},"modified":"2014-02-09T15:05:06","modified_gmt":"2014-02-09T20:05:06","slug":"what-a-to-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elainesmithwrites.com\/wp\/2013\/10\/08\/what-a-to-do\/","title":{"rendered":"What a to do!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #1c827a;\">My new favorite To Do list.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So, yesterday I was telling you about the miracle of getting back to getting things done.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line, of course, is that you have to decide to do things.<\/p>\n<p>But I am a big believer in To Do lists, and I have been on a perpetual quest for the one perfect To Do list software.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve used the Task List in my Palm Pilot.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve used my Blackberry (forget that one!).\u00a0 I&#8217;ve used a word processor.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve used a spreadsheet.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve used Personal Brain&#8211;which is good for organizing information but not so good for a To Do list.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve tried Remember the Milk and other online solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Lately, I&#8217;ve been using followupthen.com to get emailed reminders, and I like it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a fast way to schedule follow ups, especially on anything that hits your email inbox.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not a To Do list.<\/p>\n<p>Back when I was working, I made my own project management software using Microsoft Access.\u00a0 It was pretty good.\u00a0 But it wasn&#8217;t perfect.\u00a0 Mostly because I didn&#8217;t invest the time to make it better.<\/p>\n<p>Now, lo and behold!\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efficientsoftware.net\/todolist\/\" target=\"_blank\">Efficient To Do List<\/a> from Efficient Software does almost everything I want a To Do List to do.<\/p>\n<p>I can organize tasks by any hierarchy of categories I want.\u00a0 I can set due dates and reminders.\u00a0 I can sort by task, by category, by due date.\u00a0 I can sort by priority. And I can check off things that are done and watch them disappear from the list.<\/p>\n<p>Downsides are limited documentation and help features.\u00a0 The priority list isn&#8217;t flexible enough for me.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve invented a way around that.\u00a0 Occasionally, assigning tasks to Groups (categories) is a bit slow.<\/p>\n<p>Also, this is a Windows product.\u00a0 Mac users may be out of luck.<\/p>\n<p>Considering I paid less than $15 for it, I find all of those caveats acceptable.<\/p>\n<p>And I am getting things done!<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you can, too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My new favorite To Do list.
